The U.S. Border Patrol made more than 2.2 million arrests at the U.S.-Mexico in the 2022 fiscal year, the most ever recorded. This set of images chronicles the journey of migrants, most from Central and South America, as they make their final push from Ciudad Miguel Aleman, Mexico into Roma, Texas, United States after weeks and months of migrating north in pursuit of a better life. From dusk until the early hours of the morning, the smugglers will shuttle dozens of migrants across the often treacherous Rio Grande river on rafts and sometimes by wading through chest deep water. The final stretch of a migrant's journey into the U.S. comes at great risk, including torture, rape and drownings.
