We Outside/Kid19
Nate, Washington Square Park, New York City. We Outside/Kid19. A photo and video documentary project on youth culture starting in the early days of the Pandemic. This project was shot in Washington Square Park, a place of big conflict, mostly younger people 'expressing themselves' and the neighboring community responding to the noise. In those early days, I was drawn to the youth culture for its unfiltered quality, but as time went on and I got to know these young adults, interviewing them and spending time in their space, I started to see mental health as a common thread.
We all had to come to terms with our mental health at this time but I wanted to focus on adolescent coming of age in a time of so much uncertainty and how they were dealing with their mental health. I was impressed with their openness, wisdom, sadness and love they were able to express.
