Over a period of eight years, photographer Benjamin Rasmussen travelled to 43 states and was introduced to over 500 people as he investigated the impact of the country’s complex history on contemporary society.

Lines from the Torah. An American Community In 10 Fragments. March 2022. On New Years Eve, 2021, the Marshall Fire tore through the towns of Superior and Louisville in northern Colorado, destroying over 1,000 homes. In each home, books burnt and separated into pages and were carried away by the 115 miles per hour winds.
