Legal Brief: Judge Appears Likely to Dismiss AI Class Action Lawsuit by Artists

Judge William Orrick of the US District Court for the Northern District of California recently heard oral arguments in the case of Andersen v Stability Ltd, a closely watched class action complaint filed by multiple artists against companies that have developed AI text-to-image generator tools, like Stability AI, Midjourney, and DeviantArt. The artists argue that AI companies’ decision to include their works in the dataset used to train their image generator models is a violation of their copyrights. Australian photographer Helen Whittle says it is painful to see the unauthorized use of an image of her daughter as the basis for a pro-Russia mural on a bombed-out building in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. The mural, created by Italian street artist Ciro Cerullo, aka Jorit, features a young girl with the colors of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in her eyes, accompanied by a falling bomb with the word “Nato” behind her, notes The Guardian. Tech News: Tamron is Bringing Its 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Lens to Nikon Z Mount

Tamron has announced the development of the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD, a full-frame zoom lens for Nikon Z-mount cameras, notes DP Review. The company says this is the only zoom lens for Nikon's Z-mount system to have a maximum aperture of f/2. It uses Tamron's VXD linear motor for quick autofocus, and includes a fluorine coated front element.
