Trending: Photo Contest Winner Pulls Entry After Realizing It Broke the Rules

Shashank Khanna won the grand prize in Outdoor Photographer’s Great Outdoors 2021 photo competition, only to realize his composite image broke competition rules, notes PetaPixel. Shashank stood to win $2,000 plus camera gear for his photo of lightning over sand dunes, taken in Death Valley National Park on the border of California. When he posted the image on social media, Shashank made clear that it was a composite stating that it was an “abstract” image. “Their competition page has a FAQ which has an eligibility section. Initially, I had read that part which didn’t mention about use of Photoshop and composites but covered more of wildlife-related rules,” says Shashank.   Read the full Story >>

Groundbreaking street photographer Tod Papageorge’s path has taken him from the streets of New York to the capitals of Europe, from black and white to color, and from small to mid-sized cameras—and also, notes L.A.’s Danziger Gallery, to SoCal beaches in the 1970s. During the pandemic, Papageorge, now 82, revisited his images of Los Angeles beaches, reports the NY Times. “What is particularly strong about these pictures is this feeling that you get of life and sun and California,” says gallerist James Danziger.   Read the full Story >>

Call For Entries: Environmental Photographer of the Year

The Environmental Photographer of the Year 2022 competition, run in partnership with Nikon Europe, is now accepting submissions. The competition is open to amateurs and pros. Winner of the Environmental Photographer of the Year prize will be awarded a cash prize of £5,000 (approximately $6,000). Winner of the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year prize (for photographers under 21) will be awarded a Nikon Z series camera plus two Nikkor S lenses.
