Dept of Ideas: Astronomers Want Your Help in Finding Black Holes

Astronomers estimate that there are 100 million black holes in our galaxy alone, notes DIY Photography, and now a citizen science project is inviting members of the public to help search for these “hidden” singularities. The project, called Black Hole Hunters, looks for clues to the location of black holes left behind by their enormous gravity. Because black holes are so dense they have very strong gravity, and this strong gravity warps spacetime. Social News: Instagram Creators Can Now Lock Photos and Reels Behind a Paywall

Instagram creators will be now be able to lock their photos and Reels behind a paywall for subscribers using the “subscriptions” feature, reports PetaPixel. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said this was the feature he's had the most requests about from creators in the program, adds Engadget. Also new is a subscriber chat option: Influencers can hop into group DMs with up to 30 subscribers, perhaps in an attempt to persuade them to spend more time chatting on Instagram instead of, say, Discord.   Read the full Story >>

Costa Mesa, California-based photographer Jack Zhi is the grand prize winner of the 2022 Audubon Photography Awards for his image of a white-tailed kite hovering in mid-air with its wings and tail feathers spread and its underside exposed, while another raptor flies above the forward-facing kite.
