State of the Art: Clearview AI Ordered to Delete UK Facial Recognition Data

Controversial facial recognition company Clearview AI has been ordered to delete all data belonging to UK residents by the country’s privacy watchdog, the Information Commissioner’s Office. The ICO also fined Clearview £7.5 million ($9.4 million) for failing to follow the UK’s data protection laws. It’s the fourth time Clearview has been ordered to delete national data in this way, following similar orders and fines issued in Australia, France, and Italy, notes The Verge. Clearview claims its facial recognition database contains some 20 billion images scraped from public sources like Facebook and Instagram.   Read the full Story >>

Art News: Never-Seen Dora Maar Photographs Head to Auction

A collection of 750 never-before-seen photographs by French artist Dora Maar, muse and lover of Pablo Picasso, will be offered for sale by her estate next month in Paris, reports Barron’s. The majority of the photographs were taken during the years Maar spent with Picasso and reveal her involvement in surrealism and the avant-garde, according to Artcurial, the Paris-based auction house that’s handling the sale. Tech News: Connect Off-Grid With Starlike Internet

Photographers who rove about in recreational vehicles can now receive Starlink internet, reports PetaPixel: Elon Musk’s SpaceX has launched a new product specifically for vans. While applying for a regular Starlink dish and service will put customers in a waitlist until 2023, Starlink for RVs is immediately available, adds Engadget. However, the service costs $135, which is $25 more than a regular Starlink connection. In other words, the RV option costs just as much as a regular Starlink connection with the already-launched Portability feature, which allows customers to use the service while they're away from home.   Read the full Story >>
