Social News: 'Operation Bluebird' Wants to Bring Back the Pre-Musk Twitter

A Virginia startup calling itself “Operation Bluebird” has filed a formal petition with the US Patent and Trademark Office, asking the federal agency to cancel X Corporation’s trademarks of the words “Twitter” and “tweet” since X has allegedly abandoned them. If successful, two leaders of the group tell Ars Technica, Operation Bluebird would launch a social network under the name Twitter.new. (Twitter.new has created a working prototype and is already inviting users to reserve handles.)   Read the full Story >>

Art News: Smithsonian Replaces Trump Portrait, Revises Caption

The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery has replaced a photo of President Donald Trump seen in the gallery’s “America’s Presidents” exhibition, as well as altering a caption that accompanied it — erasing mentions of Trump’s two impeachments and the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. A spokesperson for the Smithsonian confirmed by email Sunday that the museum was displaying a new photograph taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok. Tech News: VSCO Can Now Capture Video

You can now shoot video from the VSCO Capture app, and, notes 9 to 5 Mac, apply more than 50 VSCO filter presets as you’re doing it. Video recording in VSCO Capture comes with some caveats, adds PetaPixel: It does not offer the same effects options or manual control as the app for still image capture, and that resolution is capped at 1080p. In addition to the new video capture feature VSCO Camera is introducing a new filter for photos: Film Grain.
