Carlo Borlenghi, whose eye for detail landed him work capturing regattas and many of the world’s fastest yachts, died on August 3, notes MegaYacht. He was 70. A native of Bellano, along Italy’s Lake Como, Borlenghi developed an interest in photography and sailing early in life. His big break came in 1983, when he became the official photographer for the first-ever Italian challenger for the America’s Cup, in Newport, Rhode Island. An Australian charity has captured what is believed to be the first-ever drone footage of a humpback whale giving birth, notes People. Drone pilot Alexander Forrest, from the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA), was observing migrating humpback whales on Tuesday, July 28, when he noticed an adult female traveling more slowly than expected. “The whale suddenly rose toward the surface, so I hit record,” says Forrest, recalling the moment. A group led by the Archaeological Legacy Institute and Purdue University will commence a mission in October to Nikumaroro Island in the Pacific Ocean island nation of Kiribati to search for the remains of the Lockheed Electra 10-E aircraft that aviator Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan were flying when they disappeared on July 2, 1937. The mission, initially announced in 2025, was prompted by a “visual anomaly” first spotted on satellite imagery in 2020 in a lagoon on Nikumaroro Island, notes Today. Read the full Story >>

Over the past quarter-century, the photobook has quietly become one of photography’s most vital forms. notes Surface, which spotlights "Photobooks USA 2000-25,” an exhibition at the International Center of Photography in New York City that brings together more than 50 photobooks tracing how photographers have used the form to respond to the social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental shifts of the 21st century.
