Passings: George Tice. 'Poet Laureate of New Jersey,' Dies at 86

George Tice, the unofficial “photographer laureate” of New Jersey whose black-and-white photographs often captured the visceral, almost haunting urban landscapes of his home state, died on Jan. 16, reports the Asbury Park Press. He was 86.  Tice  published 24 books and received numerous awards for his photography, including Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and a lifetime achievement award from the Lucie Foundation. “Tice delivered blockbuster views every time he clicked the shutter — His Cherry Hill Mobil station is a classic,” noted Andy Flak of Flak Photo.   Read the full Story >>

Industry News: Sales of Compact Cameras in Japan Surged in 2024

Japanese retail analyst BCN+R has released a report showing that consumer electronics, including cameras, experienced a huge boom during 2024, especially at the very end of the year, notes PetaPixel. Among cameras, compacts with built-in lenses showed the strongest growth, with sales volume in December 2024 up an astonishing 132.7% higher than the previous year, explains Digital Camera World.
