Western Digital says its newly unveiled SanDisk Professional Pro-G40 SSD is the company’s most rugged SSD to date, with IP68 dust and water resistance rating, 3m (9.8ft) drop resistance and up to 1800kg (4000lb) crush resistance. It has dual-mode compatibility with both Thunderbolt and USB 3.2 Gen 2 interfaces that lets it connect to any USB-C-equipped device that supports either format through the single port, notes PetaPixel. DP Review adds that it can offer read and write speeds up to 2700MB/s and 1900MB/s, respectively through the Thunderbolt 3 interface.

Ocean Photographer of the Year Friday October 14, 2022
French Polynesia-based photographer Ben Thouard is the overall winner of the Ocean Photographer of the Year 2022 competition for his image, taken near Tahiti, of a surfer getting wiped out by one of the world’s heaviest waves. “This is the unseen part of surfing," says Thouard. "I have so much respect for both the wave and the surfers — surfing such a heavy wave is a huge challenge.” The Ocean Photographer of the Year contest's mission ia to shine a light on the beauty of the ocean and the threats it faces.

The NPPA's Women in Visual Journalism conference returns this year in Dallas, TX, from October 22 to 23. “The speakers are some of the best in the business, and will be on hand for critiques. Television reporters, still and tv photojournalists, online journalists, freelancers, documentary filmmakers--this conference has something for every type of visual storyteller,” notes the NPPA.
