Legal Brief: Photographer Wins $345K Settlement Over Unlawful Arrest

Dallas News   Friday November 22, 2019

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit system (DART) has agreed to pay freelance photographer Avi Adelman $345,000 to settle a civil rights lawsuit in which Adelman alleged he was illegally arrested for taking photos of someone being treated for an overdose, notes the Dallas News.  In 2016, Adelman, 63, arrived at the scene of an overdose taking place on DART property. As he photographed the victim being treated by paramedics, DART officer Stephanie Branch told him to stop.
