Sixty years after Janis Joplin first electrified audiences with Big Brother & The Holding Company at San Francisco’s Avalon Ballroom, the Morrison Hotel Gallery is paying homage to her and her music with “Piece of My Heart,” a landmark retrospective featuring rare and iconic photography chronicling Joplin’s remarkable career, including previously unreleased photographs from the Janis Joplin Estate Archive with work by Henry Diltz, David Gahr, Elliott Landy, Daniel Kramer, Ken Regan, Amalie R. Since its inception in 2008, the widely respected Prix Pictet has focused on photography’s ability to incite conversations around sustainability. Themes typically center around one word – previous iterations have included Fire, Storm and Disorder – and now, notes Wallpaper, director of the Prix Pictet Michael Benson has revealed that the competition's next theme will be Jungle. ‘The world’s jungles are the great green lungs of the planet,’ said Benson at this year’s Arles photography festival. “Yet across the globe jungles are in crisis, forests are threatened."
