“There is no reference for you to know your location in this three-dimensional space. If you're not aware of your depth, you could start sinking down deeper and deeper."  So says the blackwater diver and photographer Jialing Cai, describing what it’s like to explore the depths of the open ocean at night. In 2023, Cai, from Chongqing, China, was named Oceanographic magazine's Ocean Photographer of the Year for her image of a paper nautilus, a rarely-encountered octopus. After recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Moscow’s main oil refinery, authorities and pro-Kremlin pundits are calling for a crackdown on people who post videos of burning ruins online, notes Radio Free Europe. Russian media is also urging citizens not to film the dramatic bombings, or even talk about them. A dramatic video showing an enormous silo from Moscow’s oil refinery in the southeastern Kapotnya district being blown high into the air went viral across the world. Legal Brief: Blogger Wins Fair Use Case Because She Paired a Photo With Q&A Section

A fashion blogger who reproduced a 1960s-era photograph by famed American photographer Melvin Sokolsky made a transformative use of the work because she accompanied it with question-and-answer or Q&A about how “army wives” should dress when greeting their husbands coming back from war, the District Court for the Central District of California has held.
