Media Watch: Tech Platforms Are Overtake Publishers as Global News Source

Social and video platforms are now a bigger source of news consumption globally than TV or news websites/apps, according to the 2026 Reuters Digital News Report on publishing trends. The report also found that the use of AI chatbots for news has not changed in the UK and US over the past year, although usage has grown from 7% globally to 10%, notes Press Gazette. Trust in news is at a record low since the Digital News Report began its surveys in 2015, while interest in news has fallen notably in five years – especially in the UK.   Read the full Story >>

Dept of Ideas: Transforming Weather Satellite Data Into a Portrait of Earth

Digital artist and filmmaker Seán Doran created his hypnotic film Water World using 2,500 infrared images captured by the GOES-16 weather satellite in late September 2024. Released through his independent project Cosma, the film transforms scientific observations of water vapor drifting above the Western Hemisphere into a cinematic portrait of Earth, notes My Modern Met. Social News: LinkedIn Launches First Creator Marketplace

Attempting to attract more creators to its business-centric social platform, LinkedIn has announced its first native Creator Marketplace, which, notes MediaPost, the Microsoft-owned company has designed to help brands find and work with relevant creators. LinkedIn’s Creator Marketplace invites marketers to find vetted creators by topic and content expertise, then assess their profile for a specific audience, performance, and overall fit. PhotoEspaña, Spain’s leading festival of photography, held its official opening in Madrid this month, and, notes The Guardian, by the time the event closes on September 13 nearly 100 exhibitions will have showcased the work of more than 300 visual artists in the capital and across the country.
