In a basement in Rochester, New York, a husband and wife are creating the ultimate accessory for old-school Leica shooters — a black-and-white film like 1920s photographers would have shot. Mark Osterman, a former process historian at the George Eastman Museum, and his wife France Scully Osterman decided to mark the 100th anniversary of the first Leica 35mm camera by making the film, and they’re doing so in their basement with “a treasure trove of old film-making equipment,” notes Kosmo Foto. Nic Nicosia rose to prominence as a photographer in the 1980s with his surreal, highly theatrical images, pairing humor and whimsy with elaborate sets, casts, and crews. In 1983, his career got a major boost when his work was was featured in the Whitney museum’s biennial, alongside that of other pioneers of the so-called Pictures Generation, including Cindy Sherman, Eileen Cowin, and Ellen Brooks. The 2026 shortlist for the World Food Photography Awards sponsored by Bimi® “offers a vivid look at how food connects people across cultures and environments,” notes My Modern Met. The competition celebrates food in all its forms, with 27 categories ranging from growing and harvesting to cooking, sharing, and surviving. This year’s competition drew entries from 50 countries, among them Valery Rizzo's photograph of workers transporting freshly harvested lemongrass across a floating aquaponic farm in Brooklyn.
