Sir Brian May, the lead guitarist of Queen, says the band is being sued “for vast amounts of money” by the family of the late music photographer Mick Rock over the photo that appeared on Queen’s second studio album, Queen II (1974). Rock’s photograph—which shows the four band members looking up at the camera, with Freddie Mercury at the front—became a defining image for the band, notes PetaPixel. The estate of Brazilian photographer Alberto Ferreira has sued Pelé Soccer, a brand created in partnership with Pelé before his death in 2022, alleging that the company used Ferreira’s iconic photograph of the soccer star’s mid-air “bicycle kick” without permission. The photo was made during a 1965 friendly match between Brazil and Belgium, notes PetaPixel. Sportico reports that while the photograph is not registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, it is registered under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works.
