The American Society of Media Photographers has announced that in 2026 any student in a 2-year or 4-year visual arts program across the world can become an ASMP Student Member for free. Starting in January, students can apply for this new program and will be asked to verify their current enrollment with ASMP to become members. There is no cap on the number of students that can be part of this program. Students who signed up as members in Q4 of 2025 will see their Membership Dues refunded automatically. The year's first supermoon and meteor shower will sync up in January skies, but the light from one may dim the other, notes ABC News. The Quadrantid meteor shower peaks Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the American Meteor Society. In dark skies during the peak, skygazers typically see around 25 meteors per hour, but this time they'll likely glimpse less than 10 per hour due to light from Saturday's supermoon. “The biggest enemy of enjoying a meteor shower is the full moon,” said Mike Shanahan, planetarium director at Liberty Science Center in New Jersey. Formed by tectonic plates slowly tearing apart, its valleys wend through 11 countries, growing inch by inch, until one day, many millions of years from now, the sea will begin to flood the land. Analog photographers may have cause to worry about the price of their film, notes PetaPixel: Prices for silver, an essential component of film production, more than doubled in 2025, hitting a record high of over $82 per ounce in December. Film manufacturers are major players in the silver market: According to World Silver Survey 2025, produced by The Silver Institute and Metals Focus, the photography market demanded about 25.5 million ounces of silver last year and is projected to account for 24.2 million ounces this year.
