Nature Watch: Rare Frogs Disappear Because of Photo Tourism

A group of rare galaxy frogs (Melanobatrachus indicus) are missing from an Indian rainforest and presumed dead after trespassing photographers reportedly destroyed their microhabitats for photos, notes The Guardian.  Rajkumar K P, a Zoological Society of London fellow, found seven members of the species in India’s Western Ghats rainforest in 2020. He could not visit them during the Covid pandemic, but when he went back later, he found the frogs had disappeared, according to a report from the ZSL. Art News: CPW Launches "Upstate Photography Biennial" With Open Call for Artists

The CPW—formerly known as the Center for Photography at Woodstock—has served as both incubator and mirror for photography in New York’s Hudson Valley and beyond, and now, notes Chronogram,  the institution is formalizing that role with the launch of the Upstate Photography Biennial. The event, slated to open May 30 and run through September 6, 2026, will survey contemporary photographic practice across upstate New York, featuring up to 30 artists working in formats that range from straight photography to documentary, experimental work, installation, and video.
