Social News: What's Next for TikTok After US Court Denies Emergency Plea to Pause Ban?

On Dec. 13, The DC Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a temporary pause on the ban of TikTok, calling such a block “unwarranted.” That means the app could disappear from the United States on Jan. 19, unless it is save by the Supreme Court. SCOTUS could make a quick decision on the case: Both TikTok and the federal government previously asked the appeals court to expedite its ruling on the case so it could be appealed before the January 19 ban. But the Supreme Court, which has a six-justice conservative majority, seems likely to rule in favor of upholding the ban, Josh Schiller, partner at law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, told CNN earlier this month.   Read the full Story >>

Passings: Polly Mellen, Storied Fashion Editor, Dies at 100

Polly Mellen, the irrepressible and indomitable fashion editor who was the last link to a long golden age when fashion editors were fearsome creatures who ruled by fiat and a photograph in Vogue magazine, died on Dec. 12 in Salisbury, Connecticut, reports The New York Times. She was 100. With the photographer Richard Avedon, her longtime collaborator, Mellen created some of the most arresting images in contemporary fashion. Honor Roll: Wedding Photographer of the Year Gets Icy
