Honor Roll: PHMuseum Women Photographers Grant Winners

The PHMuseum has announced the winners of its 2024 Women Photographers Grant program. Iranian photographer Sara Abbaspour recieves a €5,000 (about $5,250) grant for her project “Floating Ocean,” which explores Iran's socio-political transformation. The €2,000 Second Prize goes to American photographer Lisa Elmaleh for “Tierra Prometida/Promised Land,” an exploration of life along the U.S.-Mexico border. Bolivian photographer Marisol Mendez wins the €1,000 Third Prize for her project “Padre,” notes Vogue.   Read the full Story >>

Polly Mellen, the irrepressible and indomitable fashion editor who was the last link to a long golden age when fashion editors were fearsome creatures who ruled by fiat and a photograph in Vogue magazine, died on Dec. 11 in Salisbury, Connecticut, noted The New York Times this week. See It Now: Art History and Famous Photography References in 'The Simpsons'

If you like The Simpsons, you'll love the Instagram account known simply as Criminal Simpsons, which has compiled the art history references featured in the long-running animated sitcom. The referenced works include plenty of famous photographs, notes My Modern Met, including Hubert van Es’ s 1975 shot of people scrambling to board a helicopter as South Vietnam fell and Burke Uzzle’s 1969 photo of a couple huddled under a blanket at the Woodstock festival.
