Once thought dead—or if not dead, at least headed for extinction—film photography is been making a comeback for some time (not unlike vinyl records). This year has seen the introduction a number of promising new film cameras, including the Pentax 17, aimed squarely at Gen Z photographers, notes TechRader, which assess the state of the art in analog photography and looks ahead at what’s in store for the format. A reduction in the price of film would be welcomed.

Nikon Rumors Tuesday September 10, 2024
Nikon has established a $51/5 million private venture fund to invest in North American startups, notes Nikon Rumors. Launched in partnership with Geodesic Capital, the new NFocus Fund aims to to “accelerate innovation and inorganic growth” adds PetaPixel. The fund will invest primarily in early to mid-stage startups “and collaborate with partners to enhance Nikon’s technological innovation in several fields of strategic interest.” Nikon noted in a statement that it aims by 2030 to become “a key technology solutions company in a global society where humans and machines co-create seamlessly.”

The winners of the 2024 Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3) photo competition have been announced, spotlighting work from across categories including Advertising, Architecture, Book, Fine Art, Nature, Portraiture, Press, and Special. Photographer Julia Fullerton Batten wins the contest’s Photographer of the Year award for images centering on the act of foot washing as a gesture of compassion, done for the “He Gets Us” ad campaign. Photographer Mouneb Taim was named Best New Talent 2024 for his look at life in war-torn Syria.
