As a teenager growing in Syracuse, New York, William Strobeck fell in love with skateboarding—and with the style surrounding it. As one of the most prominent and influential skate videographers working today, Strobeck himself is responsible for much of “the look” of modern skateboarding, declares AnOther. His videos for the American streetwear behemoth Supreme, which rack up millions of views on YouTube, sometimes stretch to over an hour long. “It’s all real, real time, [with] real things happening,” Strobeck says.

The Alice Camera, a phone-driven Micro Four Thirds camera that creates AI-enhanced images, is about to ship to customers who placed pre-orders, notes DP Review. The camera was announced in 2020 and a was crowdfunded at Kickstarter in 2021, adds DIY Photography. Operated using an app on a smartphone that connects to the main camera unit, the Alice camera is designed to deliver social media-ready imagery without the need for manual editing. It is underpinned by powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon and Google Edge TPU processors.

Since it was established in 2001, the Hasselblad Masters competition has, notes the company, been dedicated to providing a platform for extraordinary photographers worldwide.The 2023 edition of the biannual contest drew more than 85,000 photos—a 35-percent increase over the 2021 competition. The winners of the competition’s six categories—Landscape, Architecture, Portrait, Art, Street, and Project//21—are proclaimed Hasselblad Masters, and each receives a Hasselblad X2D 100C medium-format camera, two XCD Series lenses, and €5,000.

W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund Monday July 1, 2024
The W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund will open its 2024 Grant Cycle for applications on July 2, and this year will mark the return of the Howard Chapnick Grant. The $5,00 grant supports leadership in essential fields such as editing, research, education, and management, and recognizes programs that significantly contribute to documentary photography through broad educational initiatives, including research, publication, and exhibitions. It is distinct from the Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography and the Smith Student Grant, as it does not fund the creation or production of photographs.
