Barbara Gladstone, a dealer who built one of the top galleries in New York, died on June 16 in Paris following a brief illness, notes Art News. She was 89. Her gallery, Gladstone Gallery, currently has locations in New York, Brussels, Seoul, and Rome, and has amassed a roster studded with celebrated artists. Among them are a number of photographers, including Carrie Mae Weems, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Shirin Neshat. and Roe Ethridge. “Fierce, funny, and radiating intensity, she seemed never to sit still, rarely admitted she was wrong, and was perpetually readying her next move,” adds New York magazine.

Photographer Melanie Dunea, whose shape-shifting career has spanned genres from food photography to sittings with celebrities like Anthony Bourdain, Oprah Winfrey and Marina Abramovi, now wants to bring glamour to the masses with a high-end photo booth, notes WWD. “With the invention of the iPhone, photography has become a lot more accessible. I’ve been classically trained, I have a good education on lighting, and I thought it could be cool to share this more elevated experience,” Dunea says.

World Sports Photography Awards Friday June 28, 2024
Photographer Eric T’Kindt has won the top prize in the World Sports Photography Awards for his image “Hashimoto at the Bars”—a high-flying shot of Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto in action at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. The photo is one of 24 winning images across categories including American Football, Basketball, Cycling, Gymnastics, Extreme Sports and Football. Photographers from over 80 countries submitted more than 9,000 images to this year's competition, a record.
