March will be an ideal time to photograph Mercury, the innermost planet in the Solar System, with a wide-angle or medium telephoto lens, notes DIY Photography: Just after sunset on March 8, look for Mercury low in the western sky. Meanwhile, Mashable notes that the entirety of the lower 48 US states and some regions beyond will witness (weather permitting) a total lunar eclipse the night of March 13 and into the early morning of March 14. This special cosmic event occurs when the moon, Earth, and sun are aligned.

Back in the early 2000s, photographer and photo editor Tim Barber started Tiny Vices as an online showcase for photography that galleries and magazines wouldn't touch. It became a hub and viewing room, as well as an invaluable resource for many budding photographers. Now, notes GQ, Barber has relaunched the site to celebrate twenty years of Tiny Vices and he will continue to update it; meanwhile, a retrospective of Tiny Vices images, curated by Barber, is on view at The Hole on Bowery in New York City.

In April, Gagosian’s Beverly Hills location will showcase a collection of Paul McCartney‘s rediscovered photographs, shot during the height of Beatlemania in the 1960s. But, unlike the pictures from last year’s McCartney exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, these prints will be for sale. The Gagosian exhibition will feature 36 images taken between December 1963 and February 1964, including portraits of McCartney’s bandmates John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The prints were made at Brooklyn’s Griffin Editions, notes Art News.

World Photography Organization Friday February 28, 2025
“Photography has the power to capture decisive moments, challenge perspectives, and tell stories that might otherwise go unnoticed,” notes the World Photography Organization, which has revealed the 30 finalists and shortlisted photographers in the 2025 Professional competition of the Sony World Photography Awards. There are 10 categories with three finalists selected in each category. The 10 winners will be announced in London on April 16. The Photographer of the Year title will be chosen from the category winners.
