What several reporters have described as a shattering Israeli airstrike recently took the lives of three journalists housed in a group of bungalows near the Israeli border in Lebanon. Those killed in the attack included Wissam Kassem, a cameraman for Al-Manar, Hezbollah’s television station, as well as Ghassan Najjar, a cameraman and Mohammed Reda, a broadcast engineer, both of whom worked for Al Mayadeen TV, a channel considered sympathetic to Hezbollah. Both the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters without Borders have called for an international investigation, reports The New York Times.

We recently spotlighted photographer Renell Medrano’s exhibition LAMBON, Now Medrano has launched her own magazine, called Ice, inspired by the women she grew up around in the Bronx, as well as those she was drawn to in popular culture. Using retro yet highly sexualized aesthetics of the 1970s black softcore publication Players, this time reappropriated for a female audience, the magazine is produced by an all-women crew and aims to celebrate the individuality and unique perspectives of real women, notes Dazed.

Model Gigi Hadid has faced repeated claims from paparazzi photographers for posting their images on her Instagram without permission, winning one and settling two others. Last year Hadid was sued yet again for sharing a 2020 photo of her sister Bella by photographer Ulices Ramales. But this time, she simply didn’t respond to the complaint, resulting in a default judgment. She got off lucky, notes Court Decisions: The court awarded Ramales just $3,000, a fraction of the $30,000 he’d requested, along with a reasonable $1,140 in attorneys’ fees and $440 in costs. It’s been a winning strategy in other copyright cases, adds CD.

Architecture MasterPrize Thursday October 31, 2024
Now in its fourth year, the Architecture Photography MasterPrize from Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) has revealed its 2024 winners, with the top awards going to photographers Albrecht Voss and Franco Casaccia for their exterior and interior photography, respectively. Voss’s photos of a cabin perched on Switzerland’s Tortin glacier emphasizes architect Snorre Stinessen's design while capturing the surrounding environment, notes My Modern Met. Casaccia wins for his images of an exhibition at an art institute in Düsseldorf, Germany.
