Getty Images CEO Craig Peters doesn’t want to completely stop AI from happening. But, he tells The Verge that his company’s brand is built on authenticity, and that there’s a big stake in defending photography’s authority. Getty recently announced Generative AI by Getty Images, a tool that generates AI photography but was trained using images the company already had the rights to. Getty has also put up some pretty strict guardrails around what it can do, adds TV.

Weather Photographer of the Year Monday October 16, 2023
Chilean photographer Francisco Negroni is the winner of the 2023 Weather Photographer of the Year competition for his image “A Perfect Cloud,” which shows rings of lenticular clouds circling the summit of Volcan Villarrica, illuminated from within by the orange glow of lava. Judges commented on the photo's long exposure, which captures the rotation of the earth, its stars appearing as streaks as their position shifted in the sky, notes The Royal Meteorological Society, which sponsors the contest.

Leica’s newly announced Sofort 2, the company's second instant camera, is a 4.9 MP compact camera/printer hybrid that captures images digitally and lets users decide what to save, what to send to a smartphone app for sharing, and what to print, notes DP Review. It uses a tiny Type 1/5 (2.9x2.2mm) CMOS sensor and a 2.4mm F2 lens that gives a 28mm equivalent angle of view, and is compatible with Fujifilm's Instax Mini film. There’s a micro SD card slot for memory extension (a 1GB microSD allows for 850 images, Leica says) and Bluetooth support, which gives the camera access to Leica's Fotos smartphone app.
