The Perseid meteor showers will peak this year on Sunday, August 13, meaning the ideal outing should begin the night of Saturday, August 12. (“Peak activity" for the Perseids, when you may be able to see over 100 meteors per hour, will occur at around 4:00 a.m. ET on August 13. The whole show lasts through August 24.) Mashable has tips on where to look. Hint: Find the constellation Perseus, which is the "radiant point" of the Perseids — thus the name.

In 1975, the photographer Tod Papageorge made a cross-America trip that ended on the beaches of Los Angeles. There, he produced some of his first medium-format photographs. “I hoped to describe the beauty of the light and the sensuality of the physical bodies on the beach,” Papageorge tells AnOther. He returned to California in 1978 and in the 1980s to expand on the notable work. Now it is being collected in a new book, At the Beach( Stanley/Barker). “I look at these pictures and they are alive,” he notes.

Spurred by the pandemic and social media, more and more couples are throwing out the playbook for a traditional wedding—from large receptions to cake-cutting rituals—and that posses challenges for the people they hire to create the perfect images of their big day, notes AP. Photographers are being asked to shoot more elopements and micro weddings (weddings with 50 or fewer guests) and to provide faster photos and behind-the-scenes videos that can easily be shared on social media. That’s on top of the regular wedding photos.

Rizwan Ali spent eight years documenting far-right activity in the UK in the 2010s, fighting his way to the front line of almost every demonstration held by organizations including Britain First, the English Defence League and the Democratic Lads Alliance between 2013 and 2020, at the height of sensationalism around the so-called “war on terror” and Asian grooming gangs. His work, notes Huck, provides “an intimate insight into the experience of a Muslim man standing firm in the face of racists.”
