A Projections event on August 16 will celebrate the work of photographer Mauro De Bettio, the grand prize winner of the American Photography Open 2022 competition for his photo “Gentlemen of  Kibera”—a portrait of a resident of Kibera, the largest slum in Nairobi, Kenya. De Bettio, who travels the world year-round, will be talking about his entire career and his intimate focus on humanity. Time: 7:00, via Zoom. Exhibitions: These Glamour Portraits Star Pigs

The models in photographer Heji Shin’s exhibition “The Big Nudes,” at the 52 Walker gallery in NYC, are probably all dead now, notes AnOther: The photographs of pigs from an upstate New York farm capture the porcine subjects playfully at ease, unaware of their impending slaughter. The images, and the show’s title, pay homage to Helmut Newton’s 1981 series of human female nudes. Shin’s images summon beauty, innocence, or sensuality “to push the viewer into contemplating disgust, brutality or sometimes simply sex,” adds AnOther.   Read the full Story >>

In Focus: Maui's Devastating Wildfires, in Photos

The wildfires that devastated the island of Maui have killed at least 93 people,  the county of Maui said late Saturday, making them the deadliest U.S. wildfires in more than 100 years. Fanned by winds driven by a distant hurricane, the fires forced thousands to flee; the historic town of Lahaina was hit especially hard as the fast-moving fires burned through buildings toward the waterfront, notes The Atlantic, which features a photo report.
