“I had no idea what I was doing, how to use it,” Jordan Jimenez says, recalling how he learned photography using his mother’s old Nikon. As a kid growing up in Daly City and San Bruno right outside of San Francisco, Jimenez's first love was basketball. Now he photographs the Golden State Warriors of the NBA and counts superstar Steph Curry among his friends. But the importance of photography in his life goes beyond work: Jimenez tells Today that photography saved him from depression.

It’s time to look again at Lewis Hine’s photographs of child labor in the U.S., notes The Washington Post. Early in the 20th century, Hine’s images of children working in coal mines, textile mills and industrial factories remade the public perception of child labor and inspired laws to ban it. Now, conservative lawmakers in a handful of states are seeking to relax child labor protections amid a renewed focus on child labor sparked by reporting about undocumented immigrant children working at meatpacking plants and other job sites.

During a recent Q1 2023 quarterly earnings call, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Meta CFO Susan Li noted that the time users spent on Instagram had increased more than 24 percent since the company launched its short-form video product Reels. According to the company, this higher engagement on Instagram is due to its investment in AI-powered Reels recommendations, which pushes new content to users in a similar way as TikTok, notes PetaPixel. However, TechCrunch reports that while Reels may be increasing engagement on Instagram, that is not yet directly translating to a growth in revenue for the app.
