A few magazine covers have starting using AI art, but none has generated quite so much dismay as Vogue Italia’s May issue, declares Creative Bloq. Aiming to comment on the AI art debate—and how AI art and photography might co-exist—the magazine had photographer Carlijn Jacobs create images of model Mella Hadid. His photos were then combined with AI-generated art created by AI artist Chad Nelson using DALL-E 2. “But as with many things involving AI art, things went very weird, with one image being particularly questioned,” notes CB.

Stability.AI, the company behind the Stable Diffusion AI art generator, has announced a new upscaler that can increase the size of images by 4 times without compromising resolution. The company has released two open-source models behind the Image Upscaling API, notes DIY Photography: The first is Real-ESRGAN, which doubles the resolution of a typical 512×512 image in only half a second. The second is the “latent” Stable Diffusion 4x Upscaler, which is somewhat slower, upscaling your images in 20 to 40 seconds.
