Photojournalist Sharif Hassan will get a $105,000 payout from the City of Atlanta after being arrested during a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020. Hassan was photographing the protests in downtown Atlanta on the night of June 1, 2020, a few days after the murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, when he photographed Atlanta Police Department officers arresting a person, according to his lawyer. His attorneys say that after officers spotted him taking photographs, Hassan was immediately forced to the ground and handcuffed, notes PetaPixel.

Victoria & Albert Museum Wednesday May 17, 2023
London’s Victorian and Albert Museum has a huge photography collection, and now, notes Time Out, it’s getting a huge new photography center. A part of the center was opened 2018, and the second half is opening at the end of May. The newly completed centre will feature seven galleries dedicated to the history of the medium, with two new rooms dedicated to exhibitions of contemporary and experimental photography. The other new spaces will look more closely at how photography is made, preserved and studied.

Projections Wednesday May 17, 2023
You can join a “Projections” event tonight via Zoom, featuring photographers Teresa Meier and François Brunelle talking about their work. Brunelle’s project “I’m Not A Look-A-Like!" showcases people from around the world who look alike. He will discuss the black-and-white images and the challenging logistics of shooting the project. Meier says of her work, “For me, a photograph and a concept is an elaborate puzzle—a puzzle that takes me to beautiful landscapes, wandering through antique stores, building in the wood shop, sewing a new costume, assembling props by hand, and painting both traditionally and digitally.” Time: 7:00 ET.
