For months, the government of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has accelerated the number of visas it grants migrants seeking refuge from war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and beyond. The move has created a humanitarian crisis, with Poland has declaring a state of emergency and sending more than 20,000 security personnel to its border with Belarus, notes NPR, which features a visual report from the boarder. Media Watch: Images of Beaten Women Stir Controversy

Altered images depicting a beaten  Kamala Harris, Kate Middleton and other notable women are stirring controversy around the world. The images, from Italian artist and activist aleXsandro Palombo, were created as part of a domestic violence campaign on Instagram and have also drawn praise from some for graphically calling attention to the issue. This is not the first time Palombo has raised awareness of violence against women through impactful imagery.
