The DART Board: 09.08.2021

By Peggy Roalf   Wednesday September 8, 2021

The Armory Show has regrouped following a particularly difficult transition from being live on the Piers to online to its new, permanent home--and live again--at the Jacob Javits Center. It’s open to the public September 10-12, with a VIP opening on September 9. Tickets/Info Above: Michael Rakowitz, Installation view of The invisible enemy should not exist, to be presesnted by Jane Lombard Gallery at The Armory Show 2021. Nicole Berry, executive director of the Armory Show, said. “We believe New York will emerge from this pandemic stronger than ever, and we’re excited to anchor the fall arts season at this pivotal moment when the city’s cultural organizations are reopening and experiencing art in-person is becoming possible again for everyone,” she said in a statement. “[We’ve] always been a place for profitable exchange and new discoveries, and the fair’s successful return this fall will signal the resurgence of the cultural sector and serve as a barometer for the art market.”  Some of the new online platforms developed during the Pandmic will return, engaging those who are unable to attend in person. Info

Health and safety measures that could limit crowds include a mask mandate inside the exhibition, timed tickets and either proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of entering the Javits Center, reports The New York Times. Two satellite fairs opening this week have adopted the same policies: the Spring/Break Art Show at 625 Madison Avenue and the Future Fair at 601 West 26th Street. However, visitors wishing to attend Independent at the Battery Maritime Building and Art on Paper at Pier 36 must be vaccinated. And Salon Zürcher presents its 25th annual satellite show, Femme d'esprite, on Bleecker Street, free and open to the public, masks required for the unvaccinated.

In Galleries

The opening of galleries and museums is a welcome change in the city’s Pandemic cultural life—and with all that’s going on, this could be a temporary delight. With that In mind, DART offers a menu of openings, today, in Chelsea; yesterday: Uptown and Downtown. Gallery hoppers should be prepared to show proof of vaccination, be masked and to maintain proper distancing.
