100 Heads for Haiti at Spur Gallery

By Peggy Roalf   Wednesday April 7, 2010

Spur, the design and illustration studio of Dave Plunkert and Joyce Hesselberth, is re-launching its gallery this weekend with a show of 100 heads by a stellar roster of artists who are participating by invitation.

The idea for the show came about after the January earthquake as a way to raise money for the relief effort. "At a recent production meeting," said Joyce, "Dave brought up an idea he had been kicking around to re-launch the gallery: invite 100 illustrators to donate work, a simple drawing of a head, to help with the recent Haiti disaster. Each head will be sold for $100. Our goal for the event: $10,000 for Doctors Without Borders. A limited edition poster showcasing the entire collection of heads will be available as well. The illustration community's response has been overwhelming," Joyce continued, "and we are thrilled to be hosting this event."

Original art and posters will be sold at the gallery on a first come, first serve basis. The remaining pieces that do not sell at the gallery event will be available for purchase online for one month after the opening. The original art is priced at $100 per and limited to two pieces maximum per customer; the poster is $50, plus tax on all purchases. Direct tax-deductible donations to Doctors Without Borders can also be made at the event.
