Photojournalists covering protests outside of the Delaney Hall immigrant detention facility in New Jersey have told amNew York that they were deliberately targeted and attacked by ICE agents. Clashes between protesters and ICE agents last week resulted in several arrests. Reuters photojournalist Ryan Murphy said that he was beaten with a baton and that ICE agents aimed for his camera. He believes the blow they struck broke a finger. Madison Swart, a frequent contributor to The New York Times, said she was struck her with a baton, knocking her to the ground. Read the full Story >>

The images in photographer Matthew Conners’s new book The Axe Will Survive the Master “traces the contours of an era shaped by confrontations with authoritarian power,” notes publisher Mack books. A distillation of 12 years of work across multiple continents, the book—which concludes a trilogy—looks at protests in America, the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong and the war in Ukraine as its main anchor points, adds The Guardian, which features a portfolio. The inaugural World Surf League Championship Tour event in New Zealand, held at Manu Bay in Raglan, went off with some drama: Legendary surf photographer Ed Sloane was in the water capturing images for the event, as he’s done for decades, when he was attacked by a mystery creature. Initially, nobody knew what the perpetrator was; the event was called off temporarily in case the “wildlife injury” came from a shark. Now, it’s thought the attacker was a rather feisty fur seal.
