Chinese drone giant DJI has filed a lawsuit against its crosstown rival Insta360 for alleged patent infringement. The move was made public three days ahead of the launch of DJI’s first 360-degree drone, a niche pioneered by its smaller competitor, notes the South China Morning Post. The lawsuit, filed recently with the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court in the southern tech hub where both companies are based, involved six patents covering critical technologies including drone flight control, structural design and image processing. Minnesota photojournalist Rob Levine is suing the Federal Aviation Administration over a recently issued rule banning drone flights within 3,000 feet of Department of Homeland Security buildings and vehicles. The ban was put in place by the FAA in January, while ICE operations in Minnesota were in full swing. News organizations and the National Press Photographers Association immediately pushed back against the ban, arguing that the flight restrictions violate the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. In spite of its name, Death Valley is anything but lifeless. The desert landscape was recently lit up with a rare “superbloom,” demonstrating just how vivacious it can be, and, notes Colossal, Dr. Elliot McGucken was on hand to photograph it. McGucken was photographing at Yellowstone National Park when he learned that Death Valley had experienced record rainfall.
