The European Fine Art Foundation has been trying to update its image, and now, notes The New York Times, it is doing so by turning to a medium that has become ubiquitous in modern life. This year's TEFAF art fair, which begins on March 14 in Maastricht, the Netherlands, is placing additional emphasis on photography, a reflection of its years-long efforts to bridge the old masters, objets d’art and antiques that it has long been known for, and the contemporary art that makes up an increasingly significant part of its offerings. Google has unveiled the next iteration of its popular Nano Banana AI image model, promising that it can deliver “high-quality, photorealistic imagery.” Largely borrowed from Nano Banana Pro, the new features include subject consistency of up to five characters (AI can be bad at maintaining character resemblance, notes PetaPixel). Nano Banana 2 also features “precise instruction following,” meaning the model will more strictly adhere to image prompts. South African photographer and activist Zanele Muholi has been chosen by the Hasselblad Foundation as the winner of the 2026 Hasselblad Award, which comes with a cash prize of $216,3155, a gold medal, a Hasselblad camera, and a solo exhibition at the Hasselblad Center at the Gothenburg Museum of Art in Sweden. Muholi’s two decades-plus of photography practice has celebrated the lives of Black members of the LGBTQIA+ community in South Africa, notes Artsy. “For years, my work has been about visibility and resistance,” said Muholi.
