State of the Art: Adobe Sued for Allegedly Using Authors' Books to Train AI

Adobe has been hit with a proposed class action lawsuit over allegations that its artificial intelligence tools were trained on writers' copyrighted material, notes Reuters. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Elizabeth Lyon, an author from Oregon, claims that Adobe used pirated versions of numerous books — including her own — to train the company’s SlimLM program, adds TechCrunch. Adobe describes SlimLM as a small language model series that can be “optimized for document assistance tasks on mobile devices.”   Read the full Story >>

Books: Davide Sorrenti's Journals Reveal a Restless Life

Davide Sorrenti is widely credited with reshaping what fashion imagery could look like in the 90s, exposing the industry to a darker, more intimate sensibility and an amplified relationship with mortality, notes AnOther. Sorrenti, who died in 1997 at age 20, also left behind journals that speak uniquely to how he saw and engaged with the world. “He was a juvenile delinquent angel,” says his mother, the photographer Francesca Sorrenti.
