Photographer Andreas Gursky started out shooting mostly black and white landscapes on a handheld camera, but in the 1990s he switched to making epic panoramas that were digitally stitched together, capturing in intricate detail and colour stock exchanges, factories, Amazon warehouses, 99 cent stores, Olympic skiers and more. His success was as huge as his images. “My works were selling for more and more,” he tells The Guardian, which spotlights the artist as his work goes on view at White Cube Mason’s Yard, London, through Nov. 8.

A federal judge has dismissed two claims made by a relative of photographer Mike Disfarmer against the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, which holds Disfarmer’s negatives, notes PetaPixel, citing reporting from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Disfarmer died in 1959, virtually unknown, but his portraits of people in rural Arkansas were later discovered by art institutions. U.S. District Judge James M. Moody Jr. dismissed allegations of “conversion and unjust enrichment” by Fred Stewart, a great-great nephew of Disfarmer, saying his complaint was filed “well after the statute of limitations for conversion had run.”

Paris Photo and Aperture are pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2025 Paris Photo–Aperture PhotoBook Awards—an annual celebration of the photobook’s enduring role within the evolving narrative of photography. Now in its thirteenth year, the awards recognize excellence in three major categories of photobook publishing: First PhotoBook, PhotoBook of the Year, and Photography Catalog of the Year. This year’s contest received over 1,000 books from 55 countries, Winners will be announced at Paris Photo on Nov. 14.

The New York Times has unveiled a new Watch tab in its flagship app, a mobile-native destination for vertical video that marks a significant expansion from the publisher into visual journalism, notes Adweek. The swipeable video feed, which has been available to a small cohort of users for several weeks, will feature short-form clips spanning The Times’ portfolio—News, Opinion, Cooking, and The Athletic. The product marks one of the first times a major publisher has introduced a dedicated tab for vertical video within its own app.
