Gov. Gavin Newsom of California has signed into law a new set of rules to ensure the safe development of artificial intelligence, creating one of the strongest sets of regulations in the nation, notes The New York Times. The Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act, or S.B. 53, requires the most advanced A.I. companies to report safety protocols used in building their technologies and forces the companies to report the greatest risks posed by their technologies.

Almost 25 years ago, when Chris Fallows captured his famous photograph of a great white shark breaching the surface at False Bay, off Cape Town, the area was a hotspot for the predators. Since then, as CNN notes, great whites have completely disappeared from False Bay, perhaps because of predatory killer whales or overfishing by humans. Touched by the loss, Fallows and his wife used proceeds from his image to buy and re-wild 61 acres of land on South Africa’s south coast.

Although camera shipments were relatively high for much of the year, newly released data from CIPA (the Camera & Imaging Products Association) show there was a significant dip from July to August, which was larger than the typical summer sales slump. Shipments of interchangeable lens cameras, built-in lens cameras, and lenses all increased in May, as manufacturers sought to meet demand from buyers hoping to get ahead of price increases due to President Trump’s tariffs. After remaining relatively stable in June and July, shipments declined significantly in August.

“For a long, long time, what has been picked up on are the most colorful bits: her lovers, being painted by Picasso,” says Hilary Floe, curator of a sweeping Lee Miller exhibition at the Tate Britain that, notes The Art Newspaper, seeks to go beyond the mythology surrounded the photographer. “Hopefully,” adds Floe, “there is now an appetite for a story that doesn’t get overshadowed by the fact that she was beautiful and very close to very important male artists. Because, as true as that is, it doesn’t matter that much.”
