Tech News: Google's Photoshop-Killer AI Is Coming to Google Search and Google Photos

Over the summer, Google rolled out its "Nano Banana" image-editing model in the Gemini 2.5 Flash AI assistant. Now, notes Ars Technica,  you don't even need to go to Gemini to use it. Google says Nano Banana is now coming to search, Google Photos, and NotebookLM. Users need to open Lens in the Google App and look for the banana icon that represents the new Create mode, adds PetaPixel. From there, they can take a photo and ask Nano Banana to transform it  by typing a text prompt. It also works if the user uploads a photo from their gallery.   Read the full Story >>

Marking another milestone in the history of camera technology, websites reported recently that Canon had discontinued its last pro-level DSLR, the 1DX Mark III. “There will never be another Jane Goodall,” says wildlife photographer Thomas Mangelson in an interview with Times of San Diego. Goodall, the  British primatologist, ethologist, and anthropologist best known for her 60 years of studying chimpanzees in Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park, died on Oct. 1 at age 91, having inspired people around the world — including generations of photographers — with her conservation work. “All of us who were close to her are committed to ensuring her legacy doesn’t fade away,” says Mangelson.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: The 2025 Leica Oskar Barnack Award Winners

Mexico-based Venezuelan photographer Alejandro Cegarra is the winner of the 2025 Leica Oskar Barnack Award for his series “The Two Walls,” which, notes PetaPixel, focuses on the challenges that migrants and refugees face in the borderland region of Mexico and the US. He receives 10,000 euros. German photographer Serghei Duve wins the Newcomer 2025 award for his series “Bright Memory,” which explores Duve’s family’s connections to Transnistria, a  territory that declared its independence from Moldova in 1990.   Read the full Story >>
