Honor Roll: Wildlife Photographer of the Year Winners

South African photographer Wim van den Heever’s shot of a brown hyena standing beside the ruins of an abandoned diamond mining settlement has earned him the top prize in the 2025 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. The brown hyena, the rarest of all hyena species, is primarily nocturnal and tends to live a solitary life, notes the BBC. Van den Heever set up a camera trap after spotting fresh hyena tracks in the ghost town of Kolmanskop, Namibia. It took him ten years to get the shot, he says.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Panasonic Updates Firmware and Apps, and Gives the S9 an Extra Sheen

Panasonic has announced a slew of updates, including firmware updates for cameras, added app features and a 'Titanium Gold' version of its S9 mirrorless vlogging camera, notes DP Review. The Titanium Gold variant of the Lumix S9 becomes the seventh color option for the company's 24MP vlogging-focused mirrorless camera. It will be available on December 27, with a recommended price of $1,900 bundled with the company’s 18-40mm 4.5-6.3 lens. Firmware updates for the S5II, S5IIX, GH7 and G9II improve startup times and promise bluetooth connectivity with DJI's 4th-gen RS-series gimbals.   Read the full Story >>

Art News: What Does Paris Photo 2025 Have in Store?

The big Paris Photo  art fair returns for its 28th edition from Nov. 13-16, once again at Paris’s Grand Palais after the iconic venue’s refurbishment. This year the event includes 223 exhibitors from 33 countries, 183 galleries and 40 publishers, 59 of whom are participating for the first time. “Paris Photo is becoming more diverse, with galleries such as Tintera from Cairo, Vadehra Art from New Delhi, Ayyam from Dubai, and Don from Shanghai all making their exhibiting debut,” notes the British Journal of Photography, which has a preview.   Read the full Story >>
