Xiaomi may have made the best camera phone ever with its Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but now, notes The Verge, that model has been topped by the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The new flagship phone has a quadruple rear camera laid out in a large, round module that dominates the design. That layout is probably forced by a new 4.3x periscope lens, which uses a 200-megapixel 1/1.4-inch-type sensor and has a fast f/2.6 aperture. The other three lenses — all 50-megapixel — are no slouches, either, adds TV.

World Photography Organization Monday March 17, 2025
The top entries in the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards Open competition have been announced by the World Photography Organization. This year’s Open competition drew 419,000 entries across 10 categories: Architecture, Creative, Landscape, Lifestyle, Motion, Natural World & Wildlife, Object, Portraiture, Street Photography, and Travel. The overall Open Photographer of the Year award will be announced on April 16 in London, where the 2025 exhibition opens at Somerset House and runs from April 17 to May 5, notes Colossal.

Five years after the Covid-19 became a global threat, The New York Times asked 19 photographers to revisit their most enduring images of the coronavirus pandemic. “Their photographs transport us to that bewildering period in an uncanny sort of time travel,” notes The Times. “The journalists who captured these scenes were not just covering the Covid-19 story but living through it. To bear witness at a time of lockdowns and isolation, they had to be in the world, navigating fear and uncertainty.”

Flickr Monday March 17, 2025
After being eclipsed by other social media platforms in recent years, Flickr seems to be relevant again, notes DIY Photography, which recently looked back at the photo-staring site’s history and the days when Flickr ruled the photography world. Flickr has now added a Discover page to help users find groups. “Flickr groups are the heart of the Flickr community and because they are so important, we’ve designed a new page that will make it even easier for you to find groups that are a great match,” notes the platform.
