Industry News: Insta360 and Leica Announce Partnership Extension

Insta360 and Leica Camera AG have announced an extension of a partnership that began in 2020 with the Insta360 One R action camera and, reports DP Review, more recently continued with the Insta360 Ace Pro 2. The ongoing collaboration promises to bring high-end imaging performance to Insta360’s AI-powered action cameras and other products, adds PetaPixel. The Ace Pro 2 featured a Leica Summarit lens and Leica color profiles, “so it seems likely that we will see more Leica optics and colors in future Insta360 products,” notes DPR.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll; The 2025 Eyes of History Winners

White House News Photographers Association   Tuesday March 18, 2025

The top honors in the 2025 Eyes of History photo contest organized by the White House News Photographers Association have been awarded to photographers who captured the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July. Evan Vucci of Associated wins the Press Political Photo of the Year for his iconic shot of Trump waving a fist in the air moments after the incident. Jabin Botsford of The Washington Post wins the Photographer of the Year  prize in part for his sequence of shots taken at the scene.   Read the full Story >>

State of the Art: OpenAI Says China Will Win AI Race If It Can't Train AI Models with Copyrighted Material

OpenAI, the start-up behind ChatGPT and the DALL-E image generator, is lobbying the Trump administration to give the company unfettered access to copyrighted material with which to train its AI models, notes Ars Technica. Unless that happens, the company warns, China will win the AI race. Open AI made the claim in a recently submitted proposal to influence the government’s coming “AI Action Plan.” An executive order issued by President Donald Trump declares that “it is the policy of the United States to sustain and enhance America’s global AI dominance,” adds NBC News.   Read the full Story >>
