The video, luridly titled “Husband's Secret Gay Love Affair with Step Son Ends in Grisly Murder,” became a sensation after it was uploaded to a YouTube channel called True Crime Case Files. But, notes 404 Media, the murder was fake, and the video was made using generative AI. Before the YouTube channel was terminated in January, it posted more than 150 similar videos over the past year. Other videos in the series include “Wife Secret Affair with Neighbor’s Teenage Daughter Ends in Grisly Murder” and “Sheriff Murdered After Affair With His Secretary Got Exposed.”

In 1958 Thero Makepe’s grandfather, Hippolytus Mothopeng, left South Africa to escape racist Apartheid law, fleeing to wealthier Botswana, then still under British rule. By contrast, notes the British Journal of Photography, Mothopeng’s uncle, Zephaniah Mothopeng, stayed in South Africa and became an anti-apartheid activist. This family history of diverging paths and roads left untrod inform Makepe’s series “We Didn’t Choose to be Born Here,” on show a Lemkus Gallery, Cape Town through April 12.

DP Review Wednesday February 26, 2025
Zeiss last released a lens (the Zeiss Otus 100mm F1.4) in 2019, and in more recent years speculation spread that the company was exiting the photo industry forever. But, notes DP Review, Zeiss has now posted an “exciting teaser” to its dedicated camera lens Instagram account with a note suggesting a new lens is likely coming soon. It seems safe to guess that the new lens will join the Otus lineup. The existing Otus lenses – 55mm F1.4, 85mm F1.4, 28mm F1.4 and 100mm F1.4 – were all made for DSLR cameras, so it also seems likely that this will be the first Otus mirrorless lens, adds DPR.

World Nature Photography Awards Wednesday February 26, 2025
The winning images of this year’s World Nature Photography Awards have been announced, and taking top honors is Maruša Puhek of Slovenia for her wide-angle photograph of two deer bounding through a snow-covered vineyard. “I took a few shots, frustrated that I didn’t have a telephoto lens with me. Only later, while editing, did I realize how lucky I was; the scene wasn’t overly zoomed in, allowing the snowy surroundings to remain an essential part of the composition,” Puhek notes.
