Gary He didn’t set out to write a book about McDonald’s. And, even now, the James Beard Award-winning photographer says his book, McAtlas, is not a book about McDonald’s. Rather, He, a native New Yorker, says it is “a visual social anthropology of the world's largest restaurant chain.” The result of his travels across six continents and 55-plus countries, the book features photographs of menu items and the local restaurants, as well as images that, He says, show how locals “use those spaces and what they like to eat in those McDonald’s."

A lawyer representing Nick Ut, the AP photographer credited with taking the iconic “Napalm Girl” image during the Vietnam War, says he is launching a defamation lawsuit against the filmmakers of The Stringer, the documentary claiming it was another man who took the Pulitzer-winning image in 1972. James Hornstein, who is representing Ut pro-bono, told The Wrap that a third-party law firm is preparing the case against the VII Foundation, the organization behind the film. The documentary sets out to prove that the image was actually captured by Nguyen Thanh Nghe, a freelancer and a driver for NBC News. Read the full Story >>

Photographer Shane Turgeon is the top winner of the 2024 Canadian Photos of the Year competition for a portfolio of images including a dramatic shot of a lightning bolt striking a canola field in Bentley, Alberta, and a photo of Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS appearing in the sky over an isolated and abandoned house. “Photography is this place of light,” says Turgeon. “We’re constantly chasing the light, figuratively and literally, because, in life or photography, we want that light in our life.”
