Tech News: Nikon Will Add C2PA Content Credentials to the Z6 III by Next Year

Nikon is preparing a firmware update that will bring the Content Authenticity Initiative’s (CAI) C2PA content credentials to its Z6 III camera by mid 2025. The CAI was founded by Adobe and now includes more than 800 partners with the aim of increasing trust online through provenance. The CAI also authored the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), which is a standardized way of verifying a photo’s provenance, notes PetaPixel. Nikon has previously said it would add C2PA technology into its cameras and earlier this year announced that it had developed a “digital watermark” that could exist on top of C2PA.   Read the full Story >>

In Focus: Gazans Caught in Limbo in the West Bank

Until late last year, around 18,500 Gazans held daily entry permits to enter Israel for work, Those permits were frozen on October 11, 2023, leaving some 10,000 Gazans in limbo. A senior Palestinian Authority official has said half of these residents fled to the West Bank, the rest were detained by Israel or sent back to Gaza, notes the British Journal of Photography, which features a report from Palestinian photographer Samar Hazboun focusing on the Gaza'ns whose lives, he notes, “are literally on hold.”   Read the full Story >>

Media Watch: Costco Has a Magazine, and It's Thriving

Late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel tells The New York Times he is obsessed by Costco, and that he really pushed to be on the cover of Costo Connection, the company’s magazine. Yes, Costco has a magazine, and it's a print powerhouse: Each month, 15.4 million copies of Costco Connection are mailed out to Costco members, and another 300,000 are distributed via Costco warehouses. Indeed, it is now the nation’s third largest magazine. “Freed from the pressures of the algorithm, Costco Connection’s benchmarks of success are a throwback to an earlier media age,” notes The Times.   Read the full Story >>

Exhibitions: Contemporary Street Photography at ICP

What does street photography look like now? That’s the focus of  "We Are Here: Scenes from the Streets,” an exhibition at the International Center of Photography in New York on view through Jan. 6, 2025. The exhibition, notes ICP, is an “expansive re-viewing” of street photography that “opens up important discussions on how ‘the street’ and public space are places of community, joy, self-expression, advocacy, changing landscapes, and social dynamics.” Among the photographers whose work is included: Devin Allen, Yolanda Andrade and Janette Beckman.   Read the full Story >>
