See It Now: Photographer Confronts People Who Stole $25K of His AirTagged Gear

While visiting Copenhagen, Benj Haisch had a bag filled with $25,000 worth of photography gear stolen from a bike. The bag contained a Leica 50mm Summilux lens and various other accessories—and a Sony a9 III with an Apple AirTag attached. Haisch was able to locate the bag, notes The Verge, and, using Ray-Ban smart glasses, he was able to record his recovery of the gear from the thieves. Honor Roll: The 2024 iPhone Photography Awards

US photographer Erin Brooks is the top winner of the 2024 iPhone Photography Awards for her photo “Boy Meets Shark,” which shows a boy gazing at a shark in an aquarium in Tampa, Florida. Brooks says the photo, made with an iPhone 15 Pro Max, “symbolizes the innocence of youth juxtaposed with the mysteries of the deep sea.” The competition features work across 14 categories: Abstract, Animals, Architecture, Children, Citylife/Cityscape, Landscape, Lifestyle, Nature, People, Portrait, Series Still Life, Travel, and Other.   Read the full Story >>

Social News: Instagram is Testing Vertical Profile Grids

If you’ve meticulously planned out your Instagram profile grid around squares, you might want to prepare instead for rectangles, notes The Verge. Instagram is testing a possible change to profile pages featuring vertical grids. Some users recently spotted the test, and there have been indications from at least 2022 that the company has toyed with a rectangular grid, adds TV. “The vast majority of what is uploaded to Instagram today is vertical,” Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said in an Instagram story. “It’s either 4 by 3 in a photo or 9 by 16 in a video, and cropping it down to square is pretty brutal.”   Read the full Story >>
