Industry News: WeTransfer Is Acquired by App Developer Bending Spoons

Italian app developer Bending Spoons has bought file-sharing platform WeTransfer, as the Milan-based tech company presses ahead with a string of deals for software firms. The deal, for which financial details were not disclosed, is the fifth acquisition this year by Bending Spoons, which in February raised $155 million through a capital increase, taking the company's valuation to $2.55 billion. The Milan-based company owns apps such as Evernote and Meetup, notes Tech Crunch. Bending Spoons also bought mobile video app developer Filmic in 2022.   Read the full Story >>

Social News: Justice Dept. Sues TikTok for Allegedly Violating Children's Privacy Law

The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit Friday against TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance for allegedly violating child privacy laws. The company knowingly allowed children under 13 to create and use TikTok accounts, the government said, and frequently failed to honor parents' requests to delete their children's accounts. Social News: Turkey Blocks Access to Instagram for Failure to Comply with Laws

Turkey blocked access to social media platform Instagram on Friday, affecting some 50 million users. The move came after a senior Turkish official accused the platform of blocking condolence posts following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of Palestinian militant group Hamas, notes Reuters. ”We warned Instagram about certain offenses. We want some rules to be followed ... Trending: Obama Photographer Pete Souza Deletes X Account After Trump Post

Former White House photographer Pete Souza deleted his account on the social platform X after receiving backlash over sharing a photo of former President Trump’s ear, notes The Hill. In the post, Souza appeared to question the extent of Trump’s wound from the shooting at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. On July 27, Souza shared an Associated Press image of Trump boarding his plane earlier that day. The image showed Trump without a bandage on his ear.
